| Jan 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Hi My safety issue on my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee radio face delaminating uncontrollably glitching screens back and forth calling sos controlling climate controls volume up and on radio switching stations etc.. Getting worse Danny | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Driving about 45mph down the road and car in front of me suddenly stops. I immediately hit the brakes and had plenty of space to stop but truck wouldn't stop and brake pedal went all the way down to floor and I rear ended the car in front of me. It wasn't snowing, raining nor was the road wet but it was a cold day. Not sure why it didn't stop looking back on it felt like if there was air bubbles in the brake line which caused a delay in stopping, also remember feeling antilock brakes engaging and automatic emergency stop not braking for me when I was close to other vehicle. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
| Jan 2022 | SEATS | The headrest popped forward unexpectedly and hit my husband in the head. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 1 | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The turn signals in the front headlights have a known wiring issue and stop working. The unit is all one part, non serviceable and you have to replace the entire headlight assembly at $2055. This causes a significant safety risk to everyone on the road as you are not able to notify your signals/turns. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer, I also have video evidence as well as several others who have complained on the online forums. It has been inspected by the dealer and confirmed it was broken. No notifications that it is broken but the dash board will intermittently flash that a bulb is out. First appeared a several months ago and has become more prevalent and frequent recently. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Instrument panel/ Main display screen is delaminating. Causing inability to use navigation, seat heaters, UConnect, Apps or set any presets, media, radio or any other item from main display. Safety features from main menu are inaccessible, navigation is impeded at any moment and use of screen is unpredictable. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The radio is glitching. It’s pressing buttons on the touch screen and I’m not touching the screen. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My 2018 Jeep GC has the delaminating screen It has 88,000 miles & I was told since I am not the first owner it’s not going to be fixed. Hard to believe I paid $30,000 for a vehicle with everything to be reduced to having nothing. The screen gets very hot & sticky stuff melts onto the console!! Once a screen comes up about clock settings then nothing can be accessed. The preset radio stations randomly & constantly change, the temperature goes from hot to cold, it switches from xm to regular radio, it saves favorite songs & artists, seat warmer comes on & you cannot turn it off or down, when starting the vehicle it randomly makes phone calls from the recent list or calls the first person in my contacts list. (She is used to it, I now have to text her if I really want to call her) it beeps constantly, when trying to use hands free phone calls it switches itself to the phone and back to the car over & over & constantly hangs up the screen randomly changes to the rear camera so your whole screen is you looking behind your vehicle it constantly switches where the air is blowing from the floor to the face to the windshield back to the floor then the face then the windshield and I have asked for help from service & the dealer but nothing they didn’t even return my call. I have written letters & called every number including Chrysler cares (case# 81357273) but no one will help. When I ask why because I am the second Owner they won’t fix it & they say it’s company policy. So if I was the first owner they would fix it under Chrysler Good Will. It’s been a year. Very disappointed in Chrysler & Jeep. After I purchased mine a co-worker purchased one & my son but I will never recommend Jeep again. How is a defect the first, second, or third or twentieth persons fault? The company policy excuse is just their way of not having to fix it. I wish I would have sold it back to them when they offered after Covid started. I asked my family to sue if I get hurt I have documented it ALL!!! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | At less than 30,000 miles, the Jeep Grand Cherokee's touch screen display malfunctioned and began acting on it's own. The primary issues that I have used and been impacted by are the system changes radio stations and inputs and changes destination points on the GPS, without selection from the driver or any occupant. These are both audio and visual changes that occur sporadically and are extremely distracting and call for the driver's attention to attempt to remedy the defect while driving. If the driver is following the navigation but then the screen changes to other displays and information, this conflict can easily cause a crash on top of being a nuisance. I have read several other similar complaints that seem to be going unaddressed by the manufacturer and are being identified as "delamination" of the vehicle's display unit, which houses information, entertainment, navigation, and other other digital/automated controls. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | I purchased the vehicle new and it now has 29500 miles on it. The screen for the navigation (which controls stereo, climate, phone, and everything else) started delaminating. When the screen starts doing phantom touches it is very distracting to the driver. Also, as the glue melts, it leaks onto the wiring of all the components under the screen including the AC, all the parking sensor and traction control off controls. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | EQUIPMENT | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the infotainment screen had begun to delaminate which had rendered the screen inoperable. Due to the failure, the contact could not use the front or the rear defrosters. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where he was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 60,000 |
| Dec 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My screen in the truck is constantly touching other functions on the screen. It’s a safety hazard because I can only use the navigation for 2 mins and then I have to try and fight with the screen so that it can stay on navigation. It reroutes me. Turns on the heated seats, mess with the settings and etc. it’s the stock radio not aftermarket. I seen multiple complaints regarding this matter. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Sometimes when I try to fill the gas tank on my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, it acts like it is full and will keep tripping the safety in the gas pump nozzle and shut off the gas flow. It acts randomly at the same or different gas stations without any warning. Occasionally gas will spray out of the tank, risking my safety and the safety of others near the pump. The only way I can fill the tank when this happens is to turn the nozzle sideways and fill it very slowly. I have checked a car complaint site on the internet and found numerous complaints about the same problem, dating back to 2018. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Afternoon 28/11/2022. On I275 North near Exit 50. Tha cruise control turned on and the car started speeding up. I almost ran into the back of a truck in Front of me. I applied the brake and the cruise control turned off. Also the radio won't stay on station and occasionally the seat heaters come on by without touching any controls. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The infotainment screen is delaminating and the digitizer is separating from the screen. Where separated, the screen prompts the driver to change settings, arbitrarily changes settings, or changes radio settings and renders the screen unusable. The driver is unable to adjust important settings on the vehicle and sometimes has to turn the screen off totally which renders the backup camera useless. The constant prompting to change settings or arbitrarily changing settings or making unwanted phone calls is distracting to the driver and draws his attention from driving. I have contacted FCA(Jeep’s parent company) and they are aware of the problem but have declined to address it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while, driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled on multiple occasions. There were no warning lights illuminated. The pull over, shift to park, and restart vehicle message was displayed. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and he was informed there were diagnostic trouble codes for the brake and accelerator pedal however, the mechanic was unable to determine the exact cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned about having an accident. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 37,007. | Crash: No Fire: No | 37,007 |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee which has less than 16,000 miles has developed an unusual problem. The uconnect screen console with radio will no longer stay on any station, instead it jumps from station & goes from xm, fm, to am, all on it's own. Others have reported rear canera locks up, stalling has occured, bluetooth phone connection begins making calls fron the contacts list and seat warmer & cooler go on & off. Jeep is aware of these problems & more. Jeep & our dealership says they are aware of these problems. They say it is caused by delamination, that is the glue used to mount the screen & cosole is melting and dripping down on connections on the moterboard causing much erratic behaviour. This collection of problems is certainly a safety issue. However, at this time Jeep has not set a recall. It looks as though Jeep has decided to just stick it to their loyal customers and let them pay up to $ 2,000 for replacing the console. Jeep offers a two year warranty but I am unable to find out if these problems have been addressed or are we getting another screen & console with the same problems. I am trying to find a way to contact Jeep directly but having no luck so far. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The radio had a delamination issues cause if the screen to go haywire. If turned on the radio would automatically flip through all the settings on the head unit. From headed seats to navigation to music it rendered the entire unit unusable. It might as well came without a radio or navigation because it couldn’t be used. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact's daughter owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle had been serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control) in November 2018. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 57,000 |
| Nov 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | 8.4" Uconnect LCD display is de-laminating, resulting in loss of system controls, backup camera and erratic behavior. This is distracting and can create a dangerous situation while operating the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The touch screen interface of the U-Connect system on my Jeep is delaminating from the screen behind it. This has resulted in bubbles forming in the screen and the system is now registering ghost touches on the interface. This is creating a very distracting and unsafe driving experience as the system constantly jumps around and flashes different screens while the vehicle is in motion. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer who stated that the parts were not available. The contact was placed on the waiting list. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The glue between the radio and the touchscreen melts and makes the radio perform phantom changes. This is a distraction to the driver and the cause a major safety issue. Also, as the glue melts, it leaks onto the wiring of all the components under the screen including the AC, all the parking sensor and traction control off controls | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The primary display used for the backup camera, radio functions, hands free mobile devices, climate controls, etc. is delaminating which causes a potential unsafe situation. 1) while backing up the display causes a reflection that induces blind spots 2) button presses are missed or completely ignored which causes the operator, if it's the driver, a lengthy distraction thus leading to a potential safety hazard while operating the vehicle | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The screen that has all of the controls for my vehicle has starting what they are calling "delamination" to where it is separating and randomly pressing all kinds of buttons and making calls. It is turning on the rear camera, adjusting the temperature, radio station volume, and is constantly beeping. It is very dangerous and a huge distraction. If you press the button for the screen to turn off, it just turns it right back on because of the screen issue. I have reported this issue to the Jeep dealership where I purchased the vehicle as well as directly to Jeep manufacturer. Both indicated, as does a general internet search, that this is a well known issue occurring in these vehicles. When the radio starts blaring and the seat cooler turns on and a random phone call is made through bluetooth, this is incredibly dangerous and distracting to me as a driver. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My radio is experiencing delamination and I am able to get my vehicle serviced if needed. The delamination causes my screen to freeze and I am sometimes unable to control my air conditioning/heat and sometimes am unable to use my backup camera. When the screen freezes we have to unhook the battery just so the screen will go off. Most times I’m unable to do anything on the screen. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
