These include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. All of these features depend on the proper functioning of this camera. The vehicle has never been involved in a collision, and the camera was neither abused nor damaged. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning, triggering multiple warning lights on the dashboard. While the vehicle remains operable, all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are currently disabled. It is my contention that Honda has engineered a defective camera system that requires a substantial out-of-pocket expense for vehicle owners to repair. I believe this cost should be borne by Honda, not the consumer. On the night of December 12, 2025, we were driving the car on the highway and the screen flickered in and out and then went black and so did the dashboard display. This was very scary as the entire car went dark and we were driving blindly on the highway. It appears that all 2018 Honda Odysseys have a recall for the Infotainment electrical system except for the Elite model that we purchased. I called the dealer last week and was told no recall available and we will need to pay the $179 diagnostic fee plus the cost to repair which will be significant. The contact stated while driving 60-62 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the front of the vehicle, and the vehicle lost drive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to Tire Choice Auto Service Centers, where it was diagnosed and determined that one of the engine banks had failed. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced with a used or brand-new engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would receive a call back later. Since evidence suggests failure of the forward-facing camera happens frequently, I believe this issue should be treated with the same gravity as the back-up camera and a recall should be issued. Full Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden engine failure around 116,500 miles. The dealer confirmed the engine is seized and showed significant metal shavings in the oil filter and pan. I have performed all maintenance according to Honda’s recommended schedule using the correct oil and filters. Honda corporate denied assistance based solely on mileage, even though this issue matches symptoms described in current NHTSA investigation PE25-001 (connecting rod bearing failure in Honda 3.5L V6 engines). There were no prior warnings other than a brief check-engine light and rough running before the engine locked up. The vehicle was in motion at the time and could have caused a hazardous stall, serious injury, or death. Given that Honda has issued recalls for similar rod bearing defects in other model years (2015–2020) and this failure mode presents a clear safety risk (loss of power, engine seizure), I request NHTSA include my case in its investigation and compel Honda to extend recall coverage to 2018 Odyssey owners. My van is in perfect shape, only 7 years old not so many miles. Doing some research sounds like this is an issue with Honda vehicles. My neighborhood is full of kids ( I have 3 kids too)with these large vehicles you can find a lot of blinds spots and these features help to keep everybody safe.
