Several messages indicating the air bag, the Engine Stop/Start system, the FWD system failures, and other unknown failures were displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving on another occasion. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where a mobile independent mechanic diagnosed that the PCM had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle to their location for diagnostic testing. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V524000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. Once the starter was replaced the mechanic noted whitish smoke from exhaust when starting the Jeep. Further diagnosis he determined the Jeep needed a head gasket replacement. As other Jeep owners have stated this came with no warning. This is a safety issue in part because the vehicle is unable to start leaving the drivers potentially started in unsafe conditions. Found no cause for failure, out of vehicle retracts properly. In a sudden stop the front passenger is not protected as the belt does not lock or retract without manual procedure.
