| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I have experienced times when the vehicle brakes automatically for no apparent reason. This has created traffic safety issues--the potential to cause a rear collision--and I've had to override the braking by mashing the accelerator. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Truck has gas smell in cabin and outside the truck sometimes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | Experiencing odor in cabin when truck is idling. (smell like chemical coming from vent). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | STRUCTURE,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I was driving at 65 Miles and I felt something wrong was happening, the hood was totally opened while I was driving .its was a windy day and I thought was the wind . I stopped and I closed it very well but the fallowing week I had the same issue with my car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | About 5-8% of the time when I engage the cruise control, it will advance an additional 3-4 mph all by it self. This almost caused an accident on one occasion. I had it into the dealers for repair and they said it was normal. I never had a car that did this before. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2021 | STRUCTURE | The hood shakes, flutters, bounces, in the wind. It is very unnerving thinking hood will detach and fly up and hit windshield while driving. Took the ridgeline to Honda of Ames Iowa. The glue holding the subframe to hood failed and Honda of Ames said it was out of warranty with 61,094 miles. My opinion was glue failed was not the problem but a design flaw in the hood. Honda of Ames Iowa referred me to a 3rd party for repair. I performed my own repair by glueing hood with gorerilla glue and hood still shakes, flutters, bounces. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2021 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while at a standstill the contact noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The fire marshals came and extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was informed of failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 17,500 | Crash: No Fire: Yes Towed | 17,500 |
| Sep 2021 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Honda certified used vehicle purchased in mid August ~27K miles. Shortly after normal vehicle operation and returning to our enclosed garage, the vehicle emits a strong odor of gasoline, not the result of improper or careless fueling. Two visits to dealership say nothing is wrong. No other source results in odor if this Honda vehicle is not in the garage, including a 2017 Murano. The odor is occasionally detectible in the cabin but that is not the primary complaint. The emissions of gasoline vapor (odor) appears about 15/20 minutes after shutdown and even detectible outside close to the vehicle between the left rear passenger door and rear wheel. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | SEAT BELTS | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving approximately at 50 mph, the vehicle crashed into a second vehicle causing severe damage to the front end. During the crash, the front driver seat belt pretensioner failed and did not secure the driver causing the driver to slide down the seat during impact. The driver sustained an injured left arm and injured upper torso which required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,700. The contact stated that the vehicle was totaled during the incident. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | 26,700 |
| Jul 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Upon startup, a raw fuel odor will enter the cabin. It usually doesn’t happen the first time it starts during the day but can be noticed upon repeated start up attempts. We often notice it when idling for a time as well. Sometimes a strong fuel odor is noticed when outside of the truck, even after parking it in the garage. I have taken it to two Honda dealers and they have not been able to replicate the issue. To keep the odor out of the cabin, we keep the fan on recirculate. We have had this problem since we bought the truck new in January 2020, as I noticed a strong odor in the garage after driving it home. I think we noticed it in February or March that year coming into the cabin through the heater. It also smells when it blows cold air, but it doesn’t happen all the time. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The backup camera has failed. The issue is wear and tear of an exposed portion of the wiring harness at the left tailgate hinge. The plastic housing containing the wires is exposed, breaks open, and exposing the wires supplying power to the camera and possibly other items. These wires continue to flex and eventually break. This is important because backup cameras are now part of he vehicles safety system. Failure causes the vehicle to become more unsafe. I believe that there should be a recall to inspect the wiring harness and replace if deemed defective. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Vehicle had had a rodent due to the wires long story short through the next day I got a light and things were not driving right and I got it to the dealer thank God. Cost me roughly 250 to 300 to have it repaired on my own dime because they said a rodent chewed The wire. I see and hear from other Honda owners that is a major problem with soy based wires. I do not consider an animal a natural act. It's a pest therefore you child-proof that you do not leave wires on the bottom open to areas that a animal can get to The chew. I feel Honda should be looked at since they know of this problem they saw hot and deterrent capacity type tape to deter rodents. How do I not know one of those components is not going to be something that is life limb or eyesight next time and that one next little wire that that road and choose to is going to cause an accident? Please address thank you. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2021 | ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently came to a complete stop but the engine was still running and gas pedal was not responding. The contact stated that the vehicle stability assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was still awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. Consumer stated dealer could not reproduce the problem. Case number [XXX]. | Apr 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | BACKUP CAMERA WHICH IS A MANDATORY SAFTEY FEATURE STOPPED WORKING. WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT ENTERS THE TAILGATE WAS PINCHED AND WIRES SEVERED. THIS WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER STATED THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN TO ROUTE THE WIRING HARNESS DIFFERENTLY TO MINIMIZE THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ON THE HONDA RIDGELINE FORUMS OF BACKUP CAMERAS FAILING DUE TO WIRING HARNESS ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD BE OFFERING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE WIRING HARNESS AS THIS IS A MANDATORY SAFETY FEATURE THAT IS NOT RELIABLE. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | WIRE HARNESS TO BACKUP CAMERA IS FAULTY CAUSING CAMERA SCREEN FAILURE TO DETECT PERSONS OR OBJECTS. | Crash: No Fire: No | 39,000 |

| Dec 2020 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | WHILE DRIVING INFO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STOPS WORKING, FREEZES THEN GOES BLANK. LOSE ALL DIGITAL INDICATIONS ON DRIVERS DISPLAY AND NAV CUES. WOULD BRIEFLY FLASH EVERY FEW SECONDS AS THOUGH IT WAS TRYING TO RESTART. HAS DONE THIS TWICE NOW IN A NEW TRUCK OF ONLY 26K MILES. THIS OCCURRED IN MOTION AND PERSISTED UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. DEALER SAYS WITHOUT A 'CODE' THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS LOSS OF INFO WHILE DRIVING. | Crash: No Fire: No | 26,000 |
| Sep 2020 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS | ON 8/24/20 I HEARD A CLICKING NOISE IN MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS OR PARKING. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL SEEING THAT MANY HONDAS HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE ISSUE SEEMED LINED TO THE CLOCK SPRING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT JOE MORGAN HONDA IN MONROE, OH ON 8/29/20 FOR 8/31/20. JOE MORGAN HONDA CONFIRMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE CLOCK SPRING AKA CABLE REEL. THE INVOICE IS ATTACHED. JOE MORGAN HONDA EXPLAINED THAT IF I HAD LET THE ISSUE GO LONGER, THE NOISE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN WORSE. EVENTUALLY THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS AND HORN WOULD LOSE POWER, AS WELL AS THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG. THIS IS WHERE THE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE COMES INTO PLAY. JOE MORGAN HONDA CONTACTED THE TECH LINE UPON CONFIRMING THE ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND IS HAPPENING ON OTHER RIDGELINES. HONDA IS TELLING CUSTOMERS THIS IS NORMAL. LOSS OF POWER TO THE AIR BAG WOULD CAUSE IT NOT TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE CLICKING NOISE PRIOR TO THE REPAIR. I HAVE ALSO OPENED A CASE WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. | Crash: No Fire: No | 10,500 |
| Jun 2020 | STRUCTURE | TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH, THE HOOD STARTED TO VIBRATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE BIG YELLOW LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH WITH THE WORDS "BRAKE", TRUCK COMES TO A COMPLETE HALT, I WAS SLIGHTLY JERKED FORWARD, THE TRUCK WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, 1/2 IN 1/2 OUT OR PARKING SPOT, DIAGONALLY, MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL, I THEN JUST LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE GAS PETAL TO MOVE FORWARD AND PARK, BUT THE TRUCK RESUMED TO FULL SPEED AND RAN ME INTO THE WALL, ABOUT 15 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON, THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT FLOORED, THE COMPUTER JUST TOLD IT TO RESUME THE SPEED. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, MY HANDS WERE HURT... I WAS ALONE ON THE STREET. *TR | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 | 16,000 |
| Apr 2020 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | FUEL / COMBUSTION CHAMBER ODORS ACCUMULATING AROUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED IN GARAGE AND FILLING THE CABIN WITH NAUSEATING ODOR. THIS PROBLEM COMES AND GOES WITH NEW RESOLUTION FROM DEALER. SEEM AS AN ENGINE VENTING ISSUE. ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE NEW PHURCHASE. | Crash: No Fire: No | 10,000 |
| Apr 2020 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | THERE IS A PERSISTENT SMELL OF FUEL AFTER MY RIDGELINE IS WARMED UP/DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED. THE GARAGE ITSELF WILL SMELL STRONGLY OF GAS AFTERWARDS AND THOSE FUMES GET PULLED INTO THE CABIN VIA THE FRESH AIR INTAKES. WHEN INSPECTING THE ENGINE BAY, ITS SMELLS FAR MORE STRONGLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE BAY THAN THE DRIVERS. | Crash: No Fire: No | 12,000 |
