Dec 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Back Windshield exploded while car was parked.
Incident: Dec 2023
Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Dec 2023 VISIBILITY About 10am in Dec 14th, there was something is broken sound after closing my car door, and when I turn around to check what happened, the rear windshield of car is shartted. It's obviously to see the cracks is started from sides. And excluding the man-made and natural possibilities, I think it is the bad quality of rear for vehicle. Before founding this component, my car is normally working on the night of Dec 13th. I only opened “rear” to heat in order to get a better rear view. And then I parked in front of my house. The only one factor I can ensure causing this in my mind is the problems with the quality and with the rear system. Never a car window is easily shattered because of heat rear. Although it’s no hurt happened, the bad quality of rear windshield is probably increase dangerous level if the vehicle is heated rear during a rainy day while driving. Before the rear windshield is shattered, about a week ago, the rear system seems not working to remove mist well. I had reported this situation to insurance and the dealer, but the dealer think it’s caused by natural reason or man-made. And all the repair fee is paid by myself, I don’t think it’s reasonable, and they told me they cannot replace the glass as soon as possible because it’s back-ordered. It makes huge inconvenience to me. (Hope to report this as a record if Honda can realize a “small” but big issue later)

Dec 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER The first of October 2023, I was sitting in my car in a parking lot. I started my engine and I heard a loud boom, I looked up and around my car when I noticed the large hole in my rear window. I did not turn on my rear defroster. I went home and called my insurance company. The next day I went to the dealership where I purchased my HR-V. the service technician said "oh no not another one. I asked her what did she mean by that remark. She said that this particular model 2023 HR-V, their dealership has had a lot of customers come in for the same problem. My dealership scheduled for me to get the rear shatterered window replacement. I immediately called my insurance company to cancel the appointment. Why should I file a claim on my insurance when this incident wasn't my fault. The Honda Motor Corporation need to acknowledge that the rear window is faulty and a danger to all its customers.

Dec 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The component that failed was the hatchback window. It completely shattered and it is not available for inspection unless you want to look at it before December 13. I am now without a car and this was the first available date to get it fixed. I was not at risk because I was outside of the car and had just closed the door. I could imagine if you were a passenger in the back seat you could have been hit with exploding glass. When I called the dealer they said they could do nothing for me and that I would have to get the glass replaced by a glass dealer. They said this is something that sometimes happens with the cold weather. It was not that cold. It was 25 degrees in upstate NY. I have never heard of this happening with any car and I believe they have been prompted to say this is a normal thing. I have looked online and there have been other complaints about Honda HRV 2023 back windows exploding. There was absolutely no warning.
