| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | I am the original owner of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 45,000 miles on it (it is out of the warranty period). About 9 months ago, I notice a portion of the center screen becoming delaminated. Then about 4 months ago, the screen started to act up - ghost pressing certain areas of the screen, without me touching it (automatically turning up the volume, turning on heated seats (in Florida), changing audio sources, changing the gps, etc.). It's extremely distracting when I drive. Last week, it even dialed 911 on its own while I was driving it. I contacted Jeep Cares and was instructed to take it into a dealer for a diagnostic check. They are charging me $190 for this. Even when they find the screen defective, I'm fearful that I will be charged the $1,600-$2,000 to have it replaced. This is a very known issue among Jeep/Chrysler owner - many forums like this (https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/display-screen-starting-to-delaminate.224391/) prove it. Even though I am out of warranty, I feel that this should be recalled and covered at no charge (including the diagnostic check) since it's a major safety issue. The screen was defective to begin with - and after driving it for a few year, the defects were finally known. This needs to replaced ASAP before a severe accident takes place. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | EQUIPMENT | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while reversing, the radio stayed on the display screen. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer also stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 28,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 28,000 |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | All features of the radio and heating and cooling system on my vehicle Do not properly work. The heat will switch to air at full blast without touching anything. The radio will switch between channels or stop working. You also cannot touch the screen to toggle. Or just the volume. this is extremely dangerous as it happens out of nowhere as you are driving. It is clear when looking online that this is a common issue. This is extremely dangerous. I have reported this to the dealership but they said they have not seen this issue. This is clearly not the truth since it’s so easy to Google and see numerous reports of the same incident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | EQUIPMENT | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that 10-minutes into driving at various speeds, the infotainment display screen became inoperable. The contact stated that there was a beeping sound coming from the display. The contact also stated that the seat and steering wheel heater functions remained activated. The contact stated that he veered to the side of the road to restart the vehicle, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the control display needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 93,000 |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | SCREEN DELAMINATING, IT IS CAUSING HAVOC ON MY DRIVING WITH THE SCREEN HAVING A MIND OF ITS OWN! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The consumer stated parts still are not available to fix the recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Digital Touch screen has begun to delaminate. It started in one corner and has progressed to the full top portion of the screen. Since this started, screen has become very glitchy, jumping from one radio station to another constantly or when using maps, screen is jumping all over the place. This started several months ago and has progressively gotten worse. Only way to make it stop is just turning it off completely. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The unconnect stop working and the radio went black | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | The UConnect in the vehicle delaminated, which caused a crack on the screen. Due to that, the back up cameras do not work & the controls for most things in the vehicle are unable to be used now because they are all connected via the UConnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The UConnect radio has delaminated and is available for inspection. Due to the delamination of the UConnect system it will randomly change channels, replace channels, and will skip around to other parts of the system. This issue does not always occur and is random and unkown when it may happen. When the system does this it is a distraction to the driver and could cause a potential incident. This appears to be a known issue with 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Ram pick up trucks based on a google search. There are several threads that discuss the issue and the safety concerns it may cause. There were no warnings of the issue. The delamination has been a slow process and was unaware of the issues that it could cause with changing stations and other items randomly. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Stereo screen is delaminating, sometimes I am completely unable to use radio, temperature controls, hands free calling etc. Screen presses buttons and goes crazy and I am unable to do anything. That is definitely a safety hazard. From what I have researched this is a very common problem with Jeeps. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the PCM warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control) and that the contact had to pay out of pocket for all future repairs. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced at the dealer per the recall but is experiencing issues. A warning light keeps appearing even after the vehicle's powertrain control module was reprogrammed. | Crash: No Fire: No | 70,000 |
| Mar 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My touch screen that controls the radio- heated seats-climate-maps and phone is delaminating and ghost pressing everything. It changes my maps causing a huge safety issue my heated seats the radio etc. I have no control over what is being pressed at this point. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The vehicle continues to not start. Replaced both batteries (main & auxiliary) in two days later the vehicle would not start without a jump. Checked the alternator and used a voltage meter to test all fuses. Also was placed on a diagnostic machine nothing detected. The vehicle will run for a couple of days with no problems and then will not start. Took the vehicle in for the recall. The dealership fixed the recall and now the antilock brake sensor light is on and the slippery when wet light is on. I have been told by a mechanic that there has been an TSA stating the TIPM is known to be defective. I have been told the TIPM (fuse box or brain) can cost 600-1000 to replace. The vehicle only has 80000 miles on it. This problem should not be a consumer issue when it has been identified as product defect. Please help. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | I have had a problem with the vehicle just shutting down while driving and it seems to have a wiring issue to the oem fuse box which keeps blowing the fuse. I see in 2018 there is a recall on the wiring but when I put my vin in it doesn't show that? I was on the highway and the vehicle shut off while driving and almost got killed with my granddaughter in the back seat when the vehicle behind me swerved into the fast lane and hit a part of the guardrail. I couldn't even put emergency lights on because the power died on every thing | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | STRUCTURE | The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear passenger’s side interior window carbon fiber trim panel had separated from the frame. The contact also stated that the front passenger’s side window trim panel was detaching, and the dashboard trim panel was cracked. Additionally, the contact stated that both the instrument cluster and the center display screen were delaminated and would turn off intermittently while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the center display needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 40,000 |
| Feb 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Radio screen is delaminating causing it to randomly turn things on and off, from small things like changing radio stations to "larger things" like changing other settings like seats, climate control etc. Delamination has been evident for the last year however it has just started to cause other issues. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Uconnect System Malfunction/Delamination: EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE: 1. Screen freezes and fails to project image onscreen while backing up. 2. Independent of operator touching screen: --system turns on/off. --increases/decreases volume. --changes stations, and media modes. --navigation frequently freezes during critical intersections. --climate control inaccessible. --randomly dials 911 and other random phone numbers. 3. UConnect fails to turn off even after leaving vehicle. Vehicle is primarily driven by inexperienced 17-yr-old driver. He gets disoriented when back-up camera freezes causing him to stop/park/restart vehicle very possibly in harms way. He has consistently complained about how distracting it is to try to control the system malfunctions while driving. Very often needing to pull over in areas that may not be safe. I have called Jeep Cares, FCA Recall Assistance Center, and visited Dealer Parts Dept and Service Dept. They are aware of but refuse to address the problem in spite of NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE until I pay them non-refundable $195 for them to officially diagnose a known problem and activate my case. I have a video taken in early 2021 (before end of warranty) thats illustrates some of the issues, but could only upload a still image below. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | the uconnect screen is bubbling and de laminateing and causing the display to randomly change to all different screens from radio to heat to clock to navigation constantly changing cannot work the navigation, climate control, or radio or any he controls | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | The Uconnect system laminate bubbles and as such, the system has a phantom buttom touch every few seconds. While driving, this results in an audible ding, the navagation no longer is visible, you are unable to use the backup cameras. I have also been in a situation where it turned on the seat and steering wheel heating and I was unable to turn it off. This is a very wide spread issue and is an incredible safety hazard when driving. It effectively makes it not possible to control the electronics of the vehicle while driving. I urge anyone reading this who does not think this is a huge issue to try driving one of these vehicles while this is happening. I used to drive over 20K miles a year with my previous vehicle. This issue started a month after I bought this vehicle from Vroom. As such, I have driven less than 1,200 miles in 18 months. I am incredibly surprised that this has not been recalled yet. I am trying to upload a video of it but it will not let me. This is a MAJOR problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | STEERING,SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The electrical system per the on-dash guide shows a voltage of 13.8 V or less than the 14.2 V and when it is less than the 14.2 V the car drives choppy, braking causes the car to jolt around even after brake work. The radiator was recently replaced and new hoses were replaced and it still has not been remedied after new brakes and new serpentine belt. The dealer did not clean all remaining radiator fluid that spilled in the bottom of the car, as the radiator had not completely been malfunctioning prior to arrival at dealer. This has probably caused some corrosion due to faulty manufacturing and use of subpar components to where this would become an issue. The air hoses continuously make noise as there is intermittent whirring. The electrical components of the car which I assume are manifested via the voltage regulator cause the adaptive cruise control/ auto stop-start to become 'unavailable' intermittently throughout driving the car. There have been recalls issued for other Jeep Grand Cherokees for the very same issues that my car is experiencing and I want this to be remedied and not at my expense. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The radio changes channels on its own and dials phone numbers at random. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The UConnect system seems to be changing setting on heating and volume controls as well as many other features. It has caused me to be very distracted while driving. It seems to be a real problem among all of the same systems. Please help! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ILLUMINATED CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED TO CARE FOR THE COST OF THE RENTAL CAR BY REMOVING THE AMOUNT FROM THE COST OF SERVICE CHARGES WHICH TOTALED $2,670.69 APPROVED BY THE MANAGER. UNFORTURNATELY, THE CLAIM WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF ITS WARRANTY AND DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE ANY ACTIVE SERVICE CONTRACTS. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The Uconnect Infotainment system frequently malfunctions. Because it is linked to the heating/cooling/defrost system it has caused the heat to turn on in dangerously hot weather while my 91 year old aunt was waiting in the car for me to pick up her prescriptions at Walmart. It also blanked out while I was using the navigation system in heavy traffic to find the Amtrak station during rush hour traffic in Philadelphia. Finally the same system blanked out a few days ago while I was driving to work and dialed the SOS emergency number. After a few minutes I was finally able to communicate to the emergency response agents that I was not involved in an accident, that it was a system malfunction. This has been an ongoing issue with the Uconnect 8.4 inch touch screen system. Chrysler FCA has only recently reluctantly admitted to being aware of the problems. When I notified them of my problems with the system in May 2022 their response was that since my vehicle was past the 36,000 mile warranty period that I would have to have it replaced at a dealer at an out-of-pocket cost of over $1300. Subsequently there has been an overwhelming flood of identical reports and complaints on Youtube, Facebook, Reddit, etc. When I contacted Chrysler FCA earlier this week their response was that I would be given a case # (which I was) but that I would then have to make an appointment to have it diagnosed at a dealer (for a fee). Then the dealer would possibly order a replacement. Reports on forums indicate that the replacement units typically take months just to arrive at dealerships. Finally, I have read numerous reports that the replacement units experience the same problems after a short period. I just read several reports of customers stating that they are on their 2nd and 3rd Uconnect replacements! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
