Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
Aug 2022 STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE My pre-owned 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Trailhawk is unsafe and unreliable because the vehicle ** would not start ** on three occasions within 18 months of ownership. Also, the "auto start" feature on the key fob works intermittently. Thankfully, I was in safe locations when the problems occurred, but two of those locations were in public, away from home. Also, the dashboard has indicator lights that come on randomly such as engine or start/stop or "check air suspension" or check ABS. The dealer has not been able to find or diagnose the problem, yet I keep paying out of pocket fees. My problems would occur with no warning, so there would be no time to get help. I contacted Chrysler on 8/8/22 and they were no help; they just directed me back to a dealer to pay another out-of-pocket diagnostic fee. They expressed no concern for my safety, did not acknowledge my frustration, and said a supervisor was not available to speak to me. All recall work was completed prior to my owning the vehicle. I do not trust my own vehicle and I need to travel frequently through desolate and arduous terrain. I am likely going to get rid of the vehicle because (1) I don't trust Chrysler or government systems to help me in the timeframe that I need help, (2) I need to do my job and have a peace of mind, and (3) I need to know that I and my family will be safe.

Aug 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER The radio goes in and out and the wipers do not clean the glass streak
Incident: May 2022

Aug 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM My mileage is less than 36,000 and the radio is delaminating and it’s causing random buttons to be pushed. I’m not able to turn the screen off because with the “ghost button pushing” it just turns back on. It make multiple unwanted phone calls at any given time. I work in emergency dispatch and therefore my recents are going to be my job and it’s ghost dialing, possibly causing actual emergencies to be unanswered because of my call. Cargo temperature can fluctuate from the ghost button pushing. Random things going on and because Jeep is refusing to replace, out of pocket close to $2000.00. Come on Jeep, fix an ongoing problem with your product.

Aug 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Radio screen is becoming delaminated. The radio screen will now just randomly select anything on the screen without me touching it. It has tried calling 911, it will turn my heated seats on during the summer, it will go on the navigation screen and keep selecting a new location to the point that it zooms out so far that s globe is shown on the screen and the globe just spins as the screen keeps selecting random locations all over the world. All while I’m driving. It is extremely distracting. I am unable to turn my screen off so I don’t have to see this occur out of the corner of my eye while I drive to work, but it just automatically turns my screen back on. My vehicle is only 4 years old and under 45,000, but my radio is completely junked and is becoming a huge distraction as I’m driving. The dealership I purchased my jeep from told me this is not the first instance they have heard of this, but the other vehicles had still been under their warranty period so they did not have to file a complaint.

Aug 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER There is an ongoing malfunction with the infotainment screen. While driving, it causes the heated seats to turn on, the heat to turn on and increase to hot, the radio to change stations randomly every 3-5 seconds, the placing of phone calls people randomly & repeatedly, the navigation to repeatedly leave the map so that it doesn't work, and the backup camera to come on and stay on while driving forward. All these things are extremely distracting while driving causing it to be very dangerous, especially on the highway or when many other cars are present. The problem has been reproduced at the dealer. They tried to update the software for the infotainment system, but this did not fix the problem. Also, the screen is delaminating which could be a part of the problem. The problem has not been confirmed by police, insurance reps, or manufacturer. There were no warning lamps/messages prior to the failure. The incidents first began about 9 months or more ago.

Aug 2022 SERVICE BRAKES, AIR,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the radio and A/C would activate independently. The check engine and ABS warning lights were illuminated. The contact's husband replaced the auxiliary battery. While driving, the vehicle stalled but did not turn off. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was next towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery and radio needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 33,273.

Aug 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER UConnect screen. just started “ghost touching”. While driving down the road, the screen continually jumps around, never stopping. Backup camera came on while driving 55 mph. Heated seats kept coming on. AC was on, but transferred to heater on its own. I had to pull over because of the distractions. Was told, and read on forums, that this was a very common problem with this vehicle. There were no warnings before this happened. I am scheduling an appt with Jeep dealership. I was told since car was out of warranty I would probably have to pay out of pocket. Seems there should be a recall since they know this defect exists, and could cause wrecks.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The Uconnect control screen is delaminating and creating random distractions. Examples, changing volume, random calls, screen changing on its own, etc. It is very startling when you are driving and screen randomly changes or volume blares or blower suddenly turns on. Dealership confirmed delaminating but will not cover the repair because 3 year warranty expired. Only 9,000 miles on vehicle. Jeep knows they put faulty components in their vehicles and are unwilling to take responsibility. Screen started to delaminate over a year ago and dealership said not to worry about it. Now the delaminating has gotten far worse and random crazy things happen unexpectedly while driving. Now I’m told to fix Jeeps manufacturers defect, I have to pay over $2000 out of pocket. This should be unacceptable to allow Jeep to do this. I’m afraid to let my wife drive the vehicle because when it acts up, it will scare you and possibly cause you to react badly and could cause an accident

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Infotainment screen started Delaminating for no apparant reason causing "touches" to places on the screen. These "touches" change the radio, make unwanted phone calls, turn on heated seats, mess with the clock, etc. and most importantly cause hands free phone options to not work making it unsafe or the driver. Forums from Dodge and Jeep prove to show that this is a major recurring issue on 2018 Jeep/Ram vehicles.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Infotainment system has multifocal ghost-touch inputs. The screen will randomly start activating car systems (calls, directions, change temp etc.) through the center console touch-screen. It is as if the screen has a mind of its own. The center console with pick a point and constantly push that point over and over again until you stop and turn off the car for several hours. You cannot disable it and it is a danger while driving. (This has happened at least 2 dozen times)

Jul 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The screen in my jeep is delaminating. This is a widely known issue with more than 200 complaints online and a class act just beginning. I have called a spoken with jeep multiple times trying to get mine replaced but they refuse. They say that because I did not buy warranty on the screen and also because I am not the first owner that they are not going to cover the cost of replacing it. This is a very big safety hazard as multiple people have reported there screens calling 911, turning the radio volume up to full blast, and not allowing the driver to control the AC/heat.

Jul 2022 FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The contact stated that a repair has not be made nor are the parts available yet. No help from the manufacturer has been made either. The vehicle is still operational but the contact does not feel comfortable driving it. Also, the warranty is almost up.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The UConnect touch screen is delaminating and causing the radio to “ghost touch” things on its own. For example, while I am driving it will call random people, turn on the heated seat, change radio stations, redirect the map, turn up the heat in the summer time, etc. This is a major safety concern as it causes huge distractions while driving. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue among Jeep owners.

Jul 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER My u-connect screen is delaminating and the glue is leaking out. This is causing the radio/MP3/GPS guidance to constantly change settings, stations & songs and causing me to play with it constantly while driving. It did put me in a situation once while driving in an unfamiliar area where I had to reset the map display like every 10 seconds to find my way out. I now use my old Garmin. Several times I almost ran into a vehicle ahead of me or started drifting into the other lane from the distraction. I now leave the entire radio off unless I want to change my heat/AC/fan settings.

Jul 2022 BACK OVER PREVENTION The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the navigation screen was delaminating. The contact stated that the failure caused the screen to flicker. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had caused the touchpad to operate independently. The contact stated that the delamination also caused the touchpad to change the address on the GPS while driving, which was distracting to her. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Jul 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The touch screen, infotainment system began to delaminate over a year ago and started experiencing phantom touches when the radio was on (station changes, playlist changes). This has gotten increasingly worse and the heat, AC, and backup camera now turning on and off, uncontrollably.

Jul 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I purchased the vehicle Aug 2021- I noticed the delaminating on the App Screen- I was told they would fix it- dropped off a week later, they called and said they would not fix- it was cosmetic… also said it would not affect the function of the radio or apps.. 3 months later- radio would shut down as it please, blue screen of death.. now we are at the point my seat warmers come on when they want. Navigation doesn’t have a clue.. and it randomly calls people- I turn it off- it turns itself back on— my biggest concern is the timing started 3 months after purchase and the seat warmers this is dangerous- not to mention I was lied to! I am surprised there was not a recall- there are negative things about this all over the internet.. obviously this is a known problem with this the 2018 screen. They keep attempting to put it through my extended warranty- they say no also..

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER The display monitor at the front dash is delaminating and has progressively gotten worse. You could see a clear line where there was a start of separation in the screen, that has spread to a large portion of the screen. This causes the screen to apply pressure against itself, pressing buttons on its own and taking actions not wanted by the driver. I’ve had it close out GPS while driving through a busy city. It has called 911 when I had my phone connected. It has turned the heated seats on and off and adjusted the air settings. I cannot use hands free options. This is a major distraction while driving and you cannot even turn the monitor off due to it turning itself back on. This is a safety hazard and a quick google search will show that this is a common problem!

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Infotainment screen turning itself on and changing displays without interaction distracting the driver. Jeep says there is no safety recall so they are unable to do anything to help without requiring me to purchase a full new radio unit for nearly $2000.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Main infotainment screen. Yes, it’s available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The screen is delaminating at the top left corner and moving across the screen. Eventually it will prevent me from using the touch technology on the screen appropriately, not allow me to visibly see the backup camera, and activate features I didn’t select. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - I told the dealer when I was there and they said my only option was to replace the whole unit out of pocket. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION 8.4 inch screen in jeep is ghost touching buttons switching from different settings automatically. Screen will turn on and off different features automatically to include back up camera, climate control, radio and Bluetooth. This is a safety concern because it requires me to constantly turn on and off settings that it is automatically switching between. I have yet to take the vehicle into a dealer but have talked to the dealer and jeep customer service and they are aware of the issue due to its frequency. The vehicle has not been inspected yet but problem is common and dealer and manufacturer are aware of the issue from the many different cars with the problem. Prior to the screen automatically activating different features the screen had began to delaminate.
