Jan 2024 VISIBILITY The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the rear defroster was activated, and the rear window exploded. There were no injuries sustained due to the shattered glass. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Rear window of the vehicle shattered for no reason. It was about 25 degrees outside and the rear defroster was on for the entire drive of about 1 and 1/2 hours. The window just popped and shattered. I called Honda dealership and take no blame for incident. They said there were no recalls for that. Seen on different forums on line that other people had this issue with the defroster getting too hot.

Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER My car was parked in a parking lot this morning and I got into my car, shut my driver door, and my back rear window shattered - now I am stuck replacing this when it was of no fault of my own. I see there have been over 300 complaints about Honda HR-V owners' rear windows shattering. Can something please be done about this, or can this be refunded due to having to pay out of pocket for something that is defective on this make/model of Honda vehicle?

Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Jan 2024 VISIBILITY/WIPER I used the rear defrost on a cold drive and then put the car in my heated garage. I woke up the next day to the back window having a massive hole in it. We called the Honda dealer and they have another 2023 HRV with the exact exact same problem this morning. We looked online and other people are reporting the exact same issue with this make and model. It was -7° when we were driving the car last night, so if this window had busted while we were driving that would have meant driving at very dangerous temperatures. The police did not inspect the vehicle, nor the insurance company at this point. We have taken photos.

Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER On 1/16/2024 I opened my drivers side door, got into the car, shut the door then heard a load explosive sound, looked in my rearview mirror and saw the back glass shatter and a huge hole in the center thereof. Nothing hit the window it just exploded when I shut my drivers side from door.
Incident: Jan 2024
Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER On [XXX] I was driving on the [XXX] to San Diego when I heard a loud boom and then my rear window on the drivers side had a hole in it. It was raining and I was using the rear window defroster. I immediately turned around and drove back home and took my car to the Honda dealership. When they opened the rear door and shut it a large portion of the glass fell out along with some plastic parts of the window panel. They said nothing could be done until after the Holiday. After the holiday they talked to Honda and Honda agreed to replace the window. The window part is on back order and was expected to be shipped on Jan 12; however, as of today it is still not shipped and listed as back ordered. They did not have a loaner car available for me so I was forced to rent a vehicle twice during this time until one became available on Jan 16. I told the Honda dealer that this has been happening and there is a class action lawsuit in Pennsylvania and they told me they were totally unaware of this problem existing in Honda vehicles. They were surprised when Honda agreed to pay for it. Honda needs to issue a recall and make sure that all the owners and dealerships are aware of this problem. Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER Was driving from one restaurant to another tea shop after dinner around 7:30 PM. After parking in the lot, we heard a minor crack sound but did not thought of something major. However, after getting the tea and trying to place it in the trunk, we realized that there was a hole on the rear windshield, with edges all broken up. Thought of it as an unsuccessful break-in, but there was other cars in the parking lot without this kind of shattering, which doesn’t make sense that it was a intended intrusion. Honda definitely needs to recall this issue and have the rear window replaced!

Jan 2024 STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER While at the gym one evening on 1/3, I came back to my car and noticed a shattered rear windshield. Initially my thoughts were 'did my car get broken into?' however, nothing was missing and my gym is located in a fairly safe part of town. Also, this occurred early evening, one of the busiest times at the gym and an unlikely time for a break in. I notified the police, my insurance company, and the gym. The police reviewed footage of the parking lot and didn't see anything that suggested a break it. Shortly thereafter, I became aware of many HRV owners experiencing 'spontaneous' shattering of the rear windshield. The situation was beginning to make more sense. I believe that I am a victim of this defect.

Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER The rear windshield exploded and shattered into pieces when I turned on rear defroster. No warning, no impact or other vehicles involved. This is a safety issue, I have my 3 year old son at the backseat, and the pieces of shattered glass flew pretty far out, and luckily I wasn't driving fast in the highway. I took my car to the dealer and they are ordering part to fix my rear windshield and my rear wiper.

Jan 2024 VISIBILITY/WIPER After getting in my car and shortly after turning it on, my rear windshield exploded and caused for pieces of glass to fly everywhere. One piece of glass hit my face but what worries me most is that my dogs are in the back seat when this shattered and they had glass all over them. They are shaking from fear because that sound was very loud and happened out of nowhere. No one hit me and I was not moving the car. After some online research, it looks like this is a common issue in this make/model car.

Jan 2024 STEERING While driving the vehicle at any speed, the steering wheel sticks when trying to make even the slightest movement. No warning lamps or malfunction codes appear on the instrument panel when this is happening. Additional effort is needed by the driver to overcome the sticking behavior. I took the vehicle my local Honda dealer in Selma, TX and they were able to replicate the problem. They recommended replacing the EPS gear box (rack and pinion) however the part is on critical backorder with American Honda. No timeframe is currently available on the availability of this part. The vehicle is driven by daughter and I am very concerned that this issue could cause her to lose control of the vehicle causing injury to her and other drivers around her. At the dealership I was advised to call American Honda because there is nothing they can do. I will be calling the manufacturer to report this issue and find out if a replacement vehicle can be provided and if not then perhaps a loaner while the vehicle is repaired. I would recommend creating a recall for this safety issue. I have read in various online forums that this is common issue with this vehicle.
