| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | Came to a stop sign heard a pop noise in back of car, back windshield is all cracked like crackle glass | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | Rear window shattered while parked in garage with no impact | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | The rear window spontaneously shattered while the car was parked. on 11/9/2023. Took the car to Safelite and a replacement window will not come in until 11/20/23. Called Headquarter Honda in Clermont, Florida where I bought the vehicle and was told they have no information about this kind of damage having occurred before due to any defect and that there are no recalls about shattering rear windows in the 2023 HRV. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | The vehicle had just been parked in a spot at my son’s school when the rear window glass blew out of the car. No signs of other damage or malice were evident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | Rear windshield shattered randomly while driving. The vehicle was brought into my local Honda dealer and they inspected/repaired the windshield, but didn't confirm if it was reproduced or anything. It seemed like it was the first time the dealer had seen the issue. Before it happened, there were no warnings. Just a pop, and the center completely missing and completely webbed out. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | This is my daughters HR-V (which is identical to my sons which was involved in my first report earlier this morning). She was driving to work this morning when the back glass blew out of the vehicle. Same problem with the same type of car under similar circumstances. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Rear windshield shattered on its own while driving. No other cars around and no projectiles found in the vehicle. Glass is shattered with large hole (baseball size) in top left, similar photos seen online of other HRVs with similar windshield damage. Hole continues to enlarge while driving home, now half of the back windshield collapsed into the vehicle. Honda dealership was called today in PHX, AZ on 11/8/23 at which time their service department states they have no knowledge of this occurring - yet dozens of complaints here on NTSB report the same. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Driving to work my rear window suddenly shattered. I thought something had gone through the glass but nothing was discovered in the boot. I called police, to make sure . They confirmed that likely it was a defective window. I had run the rear defroster for about 10 minutes prior to the shatter. Thankfully, it was not raining and no one was hurt. The rear window glass continued breaking off crackling and falling — as I drove, but the original hole was on the drivers side about half way up the window. I went to Honda and they had no rear windows for 2023 HRV’s available, and said they have never seen or heard of any rear window defects. I am having an off market rear window installed tomorrow at a glass repair place. Later, I found an HRV on line forum where many people have had the same exact same thing happen. The forum suggested reporting the incident here. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The rear windshield exploded spontaneously after the car was put into park. The whole thing was completely shattered and slowly collapsed in on itself. There was no damage to it, nothing hit it - it just exploded. This luckily happened after the car was in motion or otherwise serious injury or other damage may have occurred. Apparently the window system also connects to airbag system and could have caused further issues had that been triggered. The dealership, even though the car was under warranty, told me they would not replace the windshield at their cost. I plead for them to ask Honda to cover it - I was only in possession of the car for 15months, brand new! The dealership sent photos to Honda and Honda did determine they would fix the window; however, there are lawsuits being established as this is a recurring issue and Honda should be liable for putting out cars in such condition. My concern now is that this will happen again and could cause additional damage to the vehicle, others around, or anyone inside. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | On my way to work this morning, I heard a loud shattering sound and when I looked back, my back windshield was cracked everywhere. There wasn’t anything thrown at my vehicle from any direction. I pulled over shortly after and saw the bottom and sides of the windshield was chipping away and the glass was falling down, along with the seal through the outside of my car. On the inside, the glass was still cracking and slowly falling out. There was no warning or any indication that this would happen. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | - On 9/27/23 the rear windshield of my 2023 Honda HRV spontaneously shattered. This is a known issue with the vehicle. - I was driving down the freeway when my windshield spontaneously shattered. It was incredibly alarming and dangerous. Thank goodness there were no passengers in the backseat, because they would be covered in shards of glass. -The problem has been reported to the dealership and Honda is aware that this is an issue with this model car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | I was driving on a highway with the rear defroster on and heard a loud "pop" sound. I pulled over on the shoulder and noticed the rear windshield was completely shattered in the middle. Glass was everywhere. I called my local Honda dealership and they told me that it is not covered by the warrantee and that I should take it to a local glass repair shop or to safelite. There was no warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Driving at 65mph when rear glass explodes spontaneously. No projectile cause as there was no hole in the glass. Impossible to see out of the glass after it shattered. Glass starts to fall into the trunk, putting back passenger and 2 month old baby at risk of glass shrapnel. There was no warning that this would occur. Taken to dealership and technician stated that they have seen this a lot with Honda/Acura rear glass and sunroofs, but that Honda has denied every claim to fix or recall the defective glass. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Rear window shattered on its own without warning. Vehicle was not moving. It apparently is a known issue and Honda has a bulletin regarding the issue. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rear Window How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Glass shattered on its own Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? N/A. Window shattered, not reproducible Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not at this time. Details sent to dealership so the Honda rep can investigate. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. Happened without warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The back windshield exploded with no warning while I was driving to work on a rainy, 60 degree morning. No other vehicles were close by and no items hit the windshield. Glass flew everywhere including the cargo area and back seat. Luckily there were no passengers or cargo in either of those areas. There were no prior issues with this car. The issue was initially reported to our insurance but upon finding out about this issue, we reported it to the dealer from whom it was purchased. The dealer inspected the vehicle and authorized the repair based on "good will". Later on, the service rep did confirm that Honda was aware of the problem and that for legal reasons they could not comment. They are replacing the defective rear windshield with the same part number, which I assume will lead to the same issue occurring down the road. We plan on trading in the vehicle once it is repaired and returned to us. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | While driving my car this morning, I turned on the rear windshield defroster and the rear windshield glass shattered. I stoped the car to check if something felt in the rear windshield but there was nothing. Only glass everywhere. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | STEERING | Intermittently, the steering wheel feels 'sticky' and any steering adjustments feel jerky. It's as if pressure builds up preventing typical steering adjustments from feeling smooth as they should. I just started experiencing the problem recently again when the temperature dropped below 70F. The problem also seems worse when driving on the highway, which is particularly concerning. Yes, I think Honda needs to address this for safety. Simple lane changes and steering adjustments should not be this difficult. I have owned over a dozen vehicles, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. Especially with a vehicle with less than 20K on it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On July 22, 2023, I was pulling out of a parking spot when the back window/windshield exploded without cause. There were no objects nearby or any other cause for the problem. The only other possible cause would've been the pneumatics failing to protect the glass or the rear defrost heating the glass until it exploded. I took the car to the dealership (Coggin Honda Orlando, 11051 S Orange Blossom Trl, Orlando, FL 32837) and they refused to fix it under the warranty of the vehicle, which at the time was just over 10K miles and less than 6 months of ownership. A quick google search shows at least dozens of reports of the same issue happening to other owners. This is very dangerous because it can injure a backseat passenger. I was forced to pay for the repair with my Insurance for something that Honda should acknowledge as a problem and provide a recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Wife was driving to work this morning when the back windshield suddenly shattered. No impact from road debris was involved nor was any warning issued by the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The back (rear) window spontaneously shattered without cause. The vehicle was not in motion at the time of the incident, and nothing stuck the window. The safety of the occupants was put at risk from the pieces of glass which fell throughout the inside of the vehicle. Additionally, if the vehicle was in motion, when this occurred the loud noise of the window breaking may have caused the driver to become distracted and cause an accident. The car is available for inspection, but is scheduled for repair in the next day or two. An insurance claim was filed, but no representative is coming to inspect. There was no notice or warning prior to the window failing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | After turning on my defroster, my hatch window spontaneously popped and shattered. No marks of anything hitting my window. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the rear window shattered. The contact stated that there was no impact to have caused the window to shatter. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500. | Crash: No Fire: No | 7,500 |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | I was traveling roughly 20 mph on a smooth road with no traffic just after 7:00AM . The temperature was in the 30’s (F) and it had snowed so I had the rear defrost setting on. The rear windshield spontaneously shattered, I was not underneath any trees and I did not locate any foreign objects in the trunk or near the rear of the vehicle. Luckily no one was in the back seat or they may have been showered with glass fragments. There was also no traffic on the street or I could have been involved in an accident from the stimulus. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | I was driving to work this morning and was almost there when I heard a loud noise/smash. I look in my rearview mirror and see the entire rear windshield to be shattered. It shattered on its own, nothing was pelted at my vehicle (I checked the trunk of the car to be sure) and no rear defroster was on when this happened. This is crazy that a recall hasn’t been issued as of yet for this issue since it looks like so many people are having this happen to them. It is not safe and also isn’t something we should be worrying about when having a brand new vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Used my defroster in my car to defrost the front in back windows. Back window completely shattered. Not only did it put myself at risk, it also put others in the road at risk. This could have caused me to be distracted and have an accident or glass could have flown at someone else’s car. There were no warnings that the glass would randomly shatter. I contacted my dealer about this but have not received a response. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
