Oct 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The unsettling incident took place on on Sep 30, 2023 when I returned home and was about to park my prized possession, a sleek HRV Sport, within the safe confines of my garage. As the hum of the engine lulled to a gentle stop, I was ready to ease the car into its resting place when an unexpected and startling sound pierced the air, resembling a gunshot. My eyes darted to the rearview mirror, revealing a distressing sight: the back window on the driver's side had shattered into a constellation of glass fragments, cascading like crystalline rain. The eerie sight left us three occupants of the car in a state of shock and disbelief. We searched our surroundings, but neither the roadway nor any object within the car appeared to be the source of this sudden catastrophe. Strangely, the glass had shattered from the inside out, defying all conventional expectations of impact. Convinced that no external force was to blame (rubber seal of the windshield was lying on the floor), we attributed the shattered window to a manufacturing flaw within the vehicle. A deeper investigation corroborated our suspicions, as we stumbled upon a disconcerting truth: this particular make and model had a history of such defects. Scores of individuals had shared similar harrowing experiences online, cementing the notion that we were victims of a pervasive manufacturing issue. In the wake of this disheartening discovery, a wave of determination surged within us. We resolved to take collective action, raising our voices against the lack of quality control that had put countless lives at risk. Our ordeal had not only unveiled a flaw in our beloved HRV Sport but had also ignited a sense of responsibility to ensure that others were spared from the potential dangers lurking within these seemingly innocent vehicles. Thus began our journey to seek justice, shedding light on the hidden truths behind the glimmering facade of the automobile industry.

Oct 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER While the car was parked in a parking lot, the rear windshield shattered. Luckily, no one was in the car or near it. We are trying to schedule an appointment with our local Honda dealership, but no one has inspected the damage. There were no warning indicators or other problems prior. The glass just popped. We have a video of the incident but cannot upload it.

Oct 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER Today is October 1, 2023 I was driving home from church going about 35mph and we heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit the car, but they didn’t. I looked in the rear view mirror and the windshield shattered. My [XXX] mother and [XXX] Aunt (sitting in the back) were terrified and shocked. I was scared and shocked too. When I puked the car over to see what happened there was a hold on the glass and the entire windshield shattered. This is insane and extremely dangerous for anyone to experience. I am still shaking in shock now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Oct 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER My car had been parked, and when I shut one of the passenger doors, the back window shattered. My car is only about a year old and has never had any previous issues. My safety was obviously put at risk due to shattered glass and having to drive a car without a back window. Online forums state the same issue with other 2023 Honda HR-Vs.

Incident: Sep 2023
Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Sep 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER My rear window shattered on September 29th, 2023 on my 2023 Honda HRV Sport. My car had some frost on the windows early that morning, so I used the remote start to start my vehicle and let it run for about 5 minutes before leaving for work. I left the defrost on during my short 10 minute drive to work. When I came out to my car at lunch, the entire back window was completely shattered and had a large hole approximately 3 inches in diameter on the left side. The glass completely fell into my car once the driver door was shut gently. The company ran back the cameras to see if there was an incident that caused my rear window to shatter. The camera footage catches the rear window shattering about 4 minutes after I turned the car off. Nobody was near the car when it happened and it appeared that the window just shattered on its own.

Sep 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER At 4:30 pm on 9/25/2023, I was driving my car on a paved road leading out of Jacksonville,Or. to a nearby town. The weather was mild, no wind and slight mist. I was not using the wipers. Without any warning, the rear window exploded, shattering all of the window and leaving a very small open rectangle on the bottom of the window. There was no sign of a projectile either in the car or in the shards of glass.Had a passenger or my dogs been in the back seat, they would have been subject to flying glass particles. I was shocked and thought someone had fired gun at my car. I was able to do a u- turn and return home where I called my insurance. They immediately called Safelite and made an appointment for window replacement. The job was done 9/28/2023.

Sep 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I left work at about 430 p.m. and at just that time, it started to rain and then some torrential rain. Because of the heavy rain, I did use my rear defroster, the rear wiper, front wiper and front defroster. My drive as far as distance is about 18 miles, but because of the weather, traffic was slow. Then the rain stopped so I did not need to use the rear wiper. About 1-1/2 miles from my exit I heard a pop, pulled over to the shoulder of the road and saw that the back window on the left side had a hole and the rest of the glass was shattered. As time went by, as I was slowly driving home (the rest of the drive is about 5 miles), more and more of the glass was falling in. Now most of the glass is missing.

Sep 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER On September 6, 2023 at approximately 7:00AM was standing beside my vehicle pumping gas when I heard a loud noise. My daughter, who was in the car, turned around to look at me and asked me if my car was OK. Then she told me to look at my rear window. When I looked at the window it had "exploded". There was a large hole in the left, center area of the window with the rest of the window shattered, but intact. The car was off, it was on the cooler side with temperatures in the upper 50s' to low 60's. The rear defroster had been on previously on the drive, but the car was off at the time of the incident.

Sep 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER I had the rear window windshield or glass (at the trunk or above the license plate) of my 2023 Honda HRV SPORT shattering and exploding today while I stopped at a stop sign. There was no impact or an object hitting it. It just exploded. I strongly believe it’s a manufacturing defect which needs a recall or warranty coverage. I believe an inferior glass was used. I had this car for a few months and less than a year. I had a newborn in the back seat in her car seat as soon as this happened. Doesn't make me feel safe.

Sep 2023 STEERING My car is under 10,000 miles and I've had it since November 2023, and in August 2023, the steering wheel began to feel "sticky" and has ever since then. The steering wheel feels jerky when driving at no particular speed and acts up randomly, but I have noticed it is becoming more pronounced. I notice it when I'm driving straight in my lane, and have not felt it when making a lane change or turning. At some point it's like the steering wheel is met with such resistance when steering, I have to use an abnormal amount of effort to move the steering wheel just to stay in my lane. Sometimes, when having the car parked, if you slightly move the wheel back and forth, you can feel the stickiness, and even here the wheel getting stuck. The steering wheel does not feel smooth when driving. I did bring it to a Honda dealership a couple of times this past month and the technician was unable to detect an issue when running a diagnostics test. My car did not show any warning indicators.

Sep 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER I was driving down the highway on 9/21/23. I had my rear defrost on and it was about 50 degrees outside. My back windshield had no cracks in it. Nothing hit the back windshield. I suddenly heard a loud popping noise and my entire back windshield shattered. There was glass falling into my trunk. Luckily my infant daughter was not in the car in her rear facing carseat. Honda would not replace the rear windshield under the manufacturers warranty. My insurance covered the replacement of the windshield.
